Polk County Tigers Launches Youth Athletics That Go Beyond the Game

Updated: 2 days ago

Polk County, FL – A new chapter in youth development is underway in Polk County. The Polk County Tigers—a rising youth sports organization—has officially opened its doors to families and athletes across the region. But this isn’t your average athletic program. Founded by local resident and mother, Rosemarie Mitchell, who saw a critical gap in support for children on and off the field, the Polk County Tigers were born from a vision that reaches far beyond the scoreboard.

“I didn’t just want to build a team. I wanted to build a system of support,” says Mitchell, founder and executive director. “Our kids need structure, mentorship, and love on and off the field. If they’re struggling in school or at home, we’re missing the bigger picture. Polk County Tigers is about changing lives, not just seasons.”

Who We Are

The Polk County Tigers is a youth development organization focused on empowering elementary and middle school students through athletics and personal growth. Starting with cheer and football, the Tigers provide a safe, uplifting environment for children to build confidence, discipline, and teamwork.

But the game plan doesn’t stop there.

A Program With Purpose

What sets this organization apart is its holistic approach. With plans to introduce community partners in the near future, Polk County Tigers aims to support youth from every angle by providing their athletes with:

  • Academic Tutoring: to ensure players are just as strong in the classroom.

  • Family Counseling: to support the home lives and emotional well-being of each athlete.

  • Character Building & Mentorship: through structured programming and community partnerships.

There are no other youth organizations in Polk County that are tackling athletics and personal development together in this way. Polk County Tigers is built on the belief that children thrive when their community shows up for them—not just during games, but in the classroom, at home, and in their personal development journeys.

“We’re building a generation of leaders,” Mitchell adds. “And that starts by investing in the whole child: mentally, physically, and emotionally.”

Who We Serve

Polk County Tigers is open to all children in grades K–8 who are looking for a safe, structured, and uplifting environment. Whether your child is an aspiring athlete, in need of additional guidance, or simply looking for belonging, the Tigers family welcomes them.

Community Call to Action

Team registration opens soon, and the Tigers are calling on local businesses, volunteers, and sponsors to join the movement. Mitchell and her team are actively seeking community partners who share the vision of building a stronger, more resilient generation through teamwork, discipline, and holistic support.

Whether you’re a parent, volunteer, local business, or community member, there are many ways to get involved from coaching and mentoring to donating or cheering from the sidelines.
